Don McMaster was born and raised in Scotland. For many years he travelled all over the globe in various roles but recently returned to his native Scotland  where he now lives in Castle Douglas.

​Don is a self taught artist whose interest in art developed later in life. Although early works included pastels and water colours he now works only in oil on canvas.

​

​As a self taught painter he studied many other artists throughout the ages and even contemporary painters. This has led Don to develop his own style which he continues to work on today.

​

​He has exhibited in galleries and had exhibitions throughout Scotland and through commissioned work and travels means his work hangs in homes all over the world.

​

​Trips, both holiday and work to Africa have provided many subjects for his main passion for wildlife paintings. However he has always had a passion for portraiture and the anatomy of his subjects. 

​

In recent years he has developed and enjoyed a looser style in surrealist art which has been successful.
